1983–84 European Cup Winners' Cup
The European Cup Winners 'Cup in 1983/84 was the 24th playout of the competition of European Football Cup Winners' Cup. 33 club teams from 32 countries took part, including defending champion FC Aberdeen, 22 domestic cup winners and 10 losing Cup Finalists (NEC Nijmegen, Servette Geneva, SSW Innsbruck, FC Porto, FC Valletta, Spartak Varna, Mersin İdmanyurdu SK, Enosis Neon Paralimni and Hammarby IF and Boldklubben 1901). The Romanian Cup Winners CS Universitatea Craiova played due to late notification by the Romanian Football Federation not in the Europe Cup Winners' Cup, but second in the Divizia A in the UEFA Cup in 1983/84.
From Germany were DFB Cup winner 1st FC Cologne, from the GDR fdgb Cup winners 1.FC Magdeburg, from Austria ÖFB Cup Winner SSW Innsbruck and Switzerland Servette Geneva Cupfinalist at the start.
The finale at the St. Jakob Stadium in Basel, Juventus won 2-1 against FC Porto.
Scorers were next to Mark McGhee from FC Aberdeen still the two " Soviets " Viktor and Sergei Morozov Grachew of Shakhtar Donetsk, each with 5 goals.
Mode
The participants played as usual in pure Cup mode with return games the winner. Was there after two games Torgleichstand, the number of away goals scored decided ( away goals ). Was also equal in number to an extension took place in the return game in which was also the away goals rule. Ruled by the end of the extension is still a tie, a penalty shoot-out was performed. The final was decided on one game at a neutral venue. If the score is level after extra time the winner would also have been determined in a penalty shootout.
