2010 Tour de France, Prologue to Stage 10#Stage 10

The 10th stage of the Tour de France 2010 on July 14 resulted in 179 km from Chambéry to Gap. On this mid-mountain stage, there were two intermediate sprints and three climbs, each one of the first to the second and the third category. After the abandonment of Markus Eibegger the previous day 181 of the 198 registered participants were at the start.

Race course

After about five kilometers through the neutral zone, the race was 13:02 clock enabled. Finally, again formed a four-member group, this time consisting of Sergio Paulinho, Mario Aerts, Dries Devenyns and Vasil Kiryjenka who could settle now. The teams of the favorites now wanted to calm down the field and prevent further attacks. This, however, adapted the French riders who wanted to put on their national holiday in the scene, and not so attacked some. Maxime Bouet and Pierre Rolland could as yet settle. After they had a backlog of over one and a half minutes caught up on the previous record group, they reached this 66 kilometers after the start, so that it now consisted of six riders. Meanwhile, Team Saxo Bank made ​​in the field on this hot day for a final reassurance.

The projection of outliers increased at low pace quickly to over nine minutes. The first mountain stage on the Côte de Laffrey won Mario Aerts. In the field Jérôme Pineau struck in the battle for the last mountain points to be awarded the previous winners of the Mountain jerseys Anthony Charteau. Since it was the only climb of the day, in which more than six riders and therefore which got out of the main field points, Pineau conquered so that the mountain jersey, one point ahead of Charteau back. In the lead group Aerts won the third mountain stage. The projection of the group then grew to over ten minutes to at this Tour de France biggest advantage of a breakaway group. On the ascent to the Col du Noye Bouet temporarily had to be demolished. Aerts again went first over the mountain. In the field Christophe Moreau attacked at this mountain classification, although there were no more points.

In the top group Kiryjenka drove first on the last sprint. It was followed by an Uncategorised mountain, at whose rise first Bouet had to be demolished. Then there were in the top group the first attacks, starting with Aerts, followed by Kiryjenka. This was followed by an attack of Devenyns followed him Paulinho and Kiryjenka. This overtook him and sat at the top. From the field, meanwhile, Nicolas Roche and Rémi Pauriol deposed. Paulinho and Kiryjenka drove together to the finish, where Paulinho could finally just decided to sprint for the stage win. They were followed over a minute behind Devenyns, Rolland and Aerts. The defeated Bouet came up with over three minutes down on the winner. Roche and Pauriol crossed the finish line ahead of the field that had a backlog of about 14 minutes. The sprint of the field won before Mark Cavendish, Alessandro Petacchi and Thor Hushovd. Thereby did not change the placement in the sprint.
