39th Berlin International Film Festival

The International Film Festival Berlin 1989 took place until February 21, 1989 by February 10.

In the competition among others, the following movies were this year to see:

International Jury

The international jury consisted of the following members: Rolf Liebermann (Jury President), Leslie Caron, Vadim Glowna, Randa Haines, Vladimir Ignatowski, Chen Kaige, Adrian Kutter, Francisco Rabal, Cliff Robertson, Zdeněk Svěrák and Boris Vasilyev.

• Golden Bear: Rain Man
• Silver Bears: Evening Bells ( Special Jury Prize )
• Dusan Hanák ( best director )
• Isabelle Adjani (Best Actress in Camille Claudel )
• Gene Hackman ( Best Actor in Mississippi Burning )
• Eric Bogosian (outstanding performance - Written by and Representation in Talk Radio )
• Kaipo Cohen and Gila Almagor ( special artistic performance in Aviyas summer)

An Honorary Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement was awarded this year Dustin Hoffman.
