Adam-lès-Passavant

Adam -lès- Passavant is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Adam -lès- Passavant is located at 450 m, 6 km south of Baume- les -Dames and about 26 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in an undrained depression on the so-called first plateau, a basin between the Jura - edge chain ( French ) in the north and the plateau in the southeast.

The area of ​​9.59 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the wide first Jura plateau, which is on average 460 m and is slightly wavy. It forms a wide, partially karstified basin and shows a loose structure of arable land, meadows and forests. The northwestern border is above the steep drop to a gorge incised valley of Audeux. To the north the plateau falls away to the valley of the Cusancin, the communal land at a place way down almost to the river. To the east, the municipality's area extends over a terrain level on the adjacent heights with the wooded Mont d' Adam, on the 561 meters, the highest elevation of Adam -lès- Passavant is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Adam -lès- Passavant are Pont- les -Moulins and Guillon -les -Bains in the north, Passavant in the east, Saint- Juan in the south and Silley - Bléfond in the West.

History

Various scattered findings indicate that the municipality of Adam -lès- Passavant was already inhabited in prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the rule Passavant, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 101 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Adam -lès- Passavant is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 209 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Adam -lès- Passavant was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Baume- les -Dames after Ornans. Another road connection with Passavant.
