Aguanga is a census -designated place in Riverside County in the U.S. state of California. The town has 1128 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
Aguanga is located in the southwest of the Riverside counties in California at the meeting point of California State Route 79 and 371, ie at the former Butterfield Overland Mail Route. To the west, the city Temecula lies 27 kilometers away, in the south there is the Cleveland National Forest. The straight-line distance from Aguanga to the local Palomar Observatory is 9.5 kilometers. Aguanga is adjacent to the San Diego County.
With 1128 inhabitants (as of 2010 census ) and an area of approximately 35.2 km ², composed entirely of the country, the population density is only 32 inhabitants per square kilometer. The center is located at an altitude of 649 meters.
History
It is named after the site of a former Indian village named Luiseño awáanga what "dog space " means in German. In 1858, the Butterfield Overland Mail established about three kilometers west of the present post office of the place the Tejungo station. The wooden building was built some distance away from the track in a forest. Later the settlement was renamed after the nearby Indian village in Aguanga station.
Joseph R. West wrote in 1861 in a report that the now closed station was now called by its German owner Joseph Giftaler Giftaler 's Ranch. A map from the time of the Civil War refers to the settlement as Dutchman's. In 1863 here was the Base Camp Giftaler Ranch on the route that took the troops of the Union Army on their way to Arizona Territory.
1864 acquired the German immigrant Jacob Bergman Giftaler 's Ranch. The old holding station is now at California State Route 79 in Aguanga. The remains of the building can be found today.

Aguanga is part of the 28th district in the Senate of California, which is currently represented by Democrat Ted Lieu W.. In the California State Assembly, the place is assigned to the 71st district, and is therefore represented by Republican Brian Jones. At the federal level Aguanga California is one of 42 congressional district, a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R 10 and is represented by Republican Ken Calvert.
