Arsure-Arsurette

Arsure- Arsurette is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Arsure- Arsurette is located on 924 m, about 13 km east of the city Champagnole (air line). The double municipality extends in the Jura, on a broad plateau between the source of Ain ​​and the Jura mountains of Haute Joux.

The area of ​​12.56 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by a plateau, which is an average of 920 meters. It has only very small differences in relief and is mainly of meadow and pasture land in the southern part covered by forest. This plateau shows no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In some wells, which are sealed by marl and clay, to raised bogs and individual Moorweiher could develop. To the south, the municipality's area covers over a steep, partly covered by rock walls slope on the height of the Forêt de la Haute Joux and up to the ridge, which runs from Mont Croz to the northeast. On this ridge, which also belongs to the chain of Haute Joux, the highest elevation of Arsure- Arsurette is achieved with 1205 m.

The municipality consists of the villages Arsure ( 924 m) and Arsurette ( 923 m ), both near each other on the high plateau. Neighboring communities of Arsure- Arsurette are Billecul in the north, Fraroz in the east, Chaux -Neuve, Châtelblanc and Foncine -le-Haut in the south and Bief -des- Maisons and Gillois in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages belonged Arsure and Arsurette to rule Nozeroy 1372 and got some freedom rights granted to promote the settlement of the area. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. In 1816 merged Arsure and Arsurette to today's double municipality.

Attractions

In Arsurette is a Romanesque church, built in the 11th century and restored in the 19th century, enlarged and remodeled. The choir dates from the time it was built.

Population

With 92 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Arsure- Arsurette one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 370 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1990s.

Economy and infrastructure

Arsure- Arsurette was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Bief -des- Maisons after Mignovillard. Further road links exist with Gillois and Nozeroy.
