Balgstädt

Balgstädt is a municipality in the castle district in the south of Saxony- Anhalt. It belongs to the municipality Unstruttal, which has its headquarters in the town of Freyburg ( Unstrut).

Geography

Balgstädt lies in the valley of the lower reaches of the Unstrut, eight kilometers from its mouth into the hall, at the confluence of Hasselbaches. The municipality is part of the Natural Park Saale Unstrut Triasland in whose center it lies. She is also on the western edge of the wine-growing region of Saale- Unstrut. Neighboring municipalities are Freyburg, Naumburg ( Saale), Lanitz - Hassel- valley, on the Post Road, Bad Bibra and Laucha.

Quarters are Balgstädt, Burkersroda, Dietrichsroda, Größnitz, Hirschroda and cities.

History

In the directory of the goods by the Archbishop Lull of Mainz († 786), donated Hersfeld Monastery Balgestat is called. The second time the place is mentioned in a document in the resulting 880-899 Hersfeld tithe directory. On December 17, 1032 leaving emperor Conrad II 's royal court in Balchestat the diocese of Naumburg. The uradlige Thuringian dynasty of Balgstedt, which had its headquarters here, is first mentioned in 1152. There were two castles in place. Both sites were square castle with surrounding moat. 1397 a castle is destroyed and removed. 1589 the place Balnstedt was written. In those days, 34 possessed man, including 29 gardeners and 5 Anspänner in place. All courts in the village and the village hall with the exception of the road, today's B 176, were to at the time of Wolf Creutzen who owned a knight's seat in the village. Until 1815 Balgstädt was a village official in the Saxon Office Freyburg and then came to Prussia.

Incorporations

On 30 June 2009, the formerly independent municipality Burkersroda was incorporated. Hirschroda and Größnitz were added one day later.

Attractions

Village Church

The village church from 1739 includes a late Romanesque, transverse rectangular choir tower, which was probably still get from a predecessor. In the rectangular nave are two-storey wooden galleries, to the northeast, the former Herrschaftsloge. In contrast to this there is a bust of Georg Rudolf von Hessler (* 1641, † 1687 ) with coats of arms. The wooden pulpit altar dates from the time of the construction of the nave. The basket has a font cartridge between Corinthian pilasters with Akanthuswangen showing laterally under life-size carvings of Moses and John the Baptist and date from the 17th century.

Castle

Worth mentioning is the castle, a baroque building from the mid-17th century. It was until 1945 the seat of the squires of Balgstädt and now houses the parish office, a children's décor and accommodations.
