Bangerten is a municipality in the administrative district in the canton of Bern Seeland in Switzerland.

Geography

Bangerten is located on 586 m above sea level. Level, 12 km north of the capital of the canton of Bern ( straight line ). The small village extends a scenic location on a hilltop on the northeast edge of the upper wood, in the midst of Rapperswil plateau, on the Swiss Plateau.

The area of ​​2.2 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the central Bernese Mittelland. The only little in relief area descends eastward into the trough of the moss with the headwaters of the Woolibachs, which flows to the Moss Lake to the south. In the north of the municipality spell reaches into the undergrowth, in which the Mülchibach springs, and up to the edge of Junkholzes. The Mülchibach drains the northern part of the municipality to Limpach. To the southwest of the municipality extends to the upper floor and wood on the Schnarz, on the 622 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Rapperswil plateau is reached. From the municipality surface 1997 accounted for 5% on settlements, 31 % of forest and shrubs and 64% agriculture.

To Bangerten include the hamlet Hohrain (580 m above sea level. M. ) on the northwestern slope of the upper timber and two individual farms. Neighboring communities of Bangerten are barns, Iffwil, Zuzwil (BE) and Rapperswil (BE).

Population

With 160 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Bangerten one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Bern. Of the residents, 93.7 % speak German, 1.9% French-speaking and 1.9 % speak Arabic ( as of 2000). The population of Bangerten amounted in 1850 to 180 residents in 1900 to 228 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population increased by strong migration to 1970 by almost 40 % to 141 persons. This was followed by a prolonged period of stagnation and re- recorded a slight increase in population since 1990.

Policy

The voter shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 43.2 %, BDP 21.4 %, SP 11.8 %, GPS 6.1 %, FDP 5.5 %, glp 5.2 %, Alps Parliament 4.1 %, EPP 0.9 %, CVP 0.5 %, EDU 0.1%.

Economy

Bangerten was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and dairy farming and forestry have an important place in the economic structure of the population. Some other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available, including a carpenter. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the agglomeration of Bern.

Traffic

The community is located off of the larger passage axes at a connecting road from Jegenstorf to Rapperswil (BE). The nearest links to the motorway A6 ( Bern -Biel ) is located approximately 4 km from the town center. Bangerten has no connection to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1263 under the name Bongarten. Later, the names Bongarthen ( 1306), Boumgarten ( 1528), Bangartten ( 1575), Bann Garden ( 1577), Bangarten (1789 ) and Bangerten (1850 ) published. The place name comes from the Middle High German word back boumgarte ( with stock of fruit trees with of land ).

Since the Middle Ages Bangerten was under the Counts of Kyburg. In the 13th century the manorial got to the Knights of St. John in Münchenbuchsee. Since 1406 was responsible for the sovereignty over the territory in Bern. After the Coming had been secularized in 1528, Bangerten the bailiwick Münchenbuchsee was allocated in the district court Zollikofen. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ), the village belonged to the district during the Helvetic Zollikofen and from 1803 to Oberamt Mrs. Fountain, received the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. In 1847, a dairy cooperative was set up in the village. Today Bangerten works closely with neighboring communities, which represent some of the municipal infrastructure.

Attractions

Bangerten has preserved a remarkable townscape with many typical farmhouses ( half-timbered buildings ) from the 18th and 19th centuries. The village does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Rapperswil.
