At the age of 25, he announced to the world that he would " make greatest rock album in history " that. Despite the large amount of releases of the band - ten albums in three years, two in 1965 - consisted Capitol on a new LP. Brian Wilson took some time for Pet Sounds, he wanted to tackle the matter this time slower. Live and Christmas albums, the band had already recorded in front of a best-of album startled you back, because at that time best-of albums were only released when an artist was on the way down.

To escape this dilemma, the band resorted to a trick. Instead of an ordinary live album should Beach Boys ' Party! give the impression that it was taken during a party. The Beach Boys went into the studio for a few days and played cover versions of popular hits of the 1950s and 1960s. The voices and the party noises were only added later. These are the voices of many relatives, friends and the women or girlfriends of the Beach Boys.

The album was recorded with acoustic guitars, electric bass and bongos. It reached number 6 in the U.S. Billboard charts and # 3 in the UK charts.
