Berwang

Berwang is a municipality with 571 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Reutte in Tirol ( Austria ). Districts are fire, Bichlbächle, Gröben, Kleinstockach, Mitteregg, gutters, valley. The municipality is located in the judicial district of Reutte.

Location

The scattered village lies on the slope of the knoll, which connects with the Rotlechtal the Berwanger valley ( reached from Bichlbach off). Kleinstockach and Bichlbächle are mountain rural stamped places in Berwanger valley. Brand, Mitteregg and gutters are in Rotlechtal.

Neighboring communities

History

The place name is derived from about ( bear) and wang ( meadow). The town was settled by Imst 1266 and came to Tyrol, remained administratively but still in Imst. From 1430 it was under the court Ehrenberg ( near Reutte ). 1949 went into Berwang the first ski lift in operation. Through the tourism changed the structure of the formerly poor community, many farms have been abandoned.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms granted in 1955 shows on green sign foot in an upright silver black bear. It symbolizes as canting arms the place name ( " Bärenwiese ").
