Lermoos

Lermoos is a municipality with 1102 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Reutte, Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Reutte.

Geographical Location

Lermoos is located on the western edge of the basin landscape of the carrying of the Loisach Lermooser Moss, a former marshland between the Lech Valley Alps, Oberammergau Alps and the Wettersteingebirge. The origin of the name is not entirely clear; he could possibly be of Larinmoos ( "empty, unused moss " ) or derived from larch moss. Districts are Gries, Upper Garden, Untergarten.

History

The place is considered one of the oldest in Außerfern. Already in 1060 Lermoos is first mentioned. Its location on the important connection via the Fern Pass Lermoos was once economically quite significant. It was there in 1500 a goods interim storage.
