Gramais

Gramais is a municipality with a population of 54 (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Reutte, Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Reutte.

Location

Gramais is the smallest independent community in Austria. It is located in a tributary of the Tyrol's Lech Valley, which branches at Haselgehr. The neighboring municipalities are Bach, Haselgehr, Imst, Zams and Pfafflar.

History

Gramais was first documented in 1427. The name derives from the Latin " graminosa " ( grass area) or Romanesque " grumoso " ( weed rich ), more " grassy area " from.

The settlement activity in the 13th century from Imst room. At first only used as grazing land, here developed a permanent settlement. 1837 had 121 inhabitants Gramais yet. The community is accessible via a good 8.5 km long road from Haselgehr today. Gramais was until 1938 part of the district Imst and until 1947 part of the judicial district of Imst.

Tourism and economy

Agriculture in Gramais is dominated rural mountain. The town is the starting point of hiking and mountain climbing in the Lech Valley Alps. Gramais is the verschuldetste town in Austria.
