Schattwald

Schatt Wald is a municipality with 421 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Reutte, Tyrol ( Austria ) and the last and most westerly place in the Tannheim Valley, which is drained by the Vils. It is located east of Bad Hindelang ( Bavaria ) leading Oberjochpasses so that it is slightly east of the border with Germany.

The settlement area of the municipality is divided into several small villages and hamlets. The municipally owned power plant supplies the entire Tannheimertal with electrical energy.

Schattwald is a two seasonal tourism community. In winter Schattwald Zöblen, together with the largest skiable terrain, divided into a total of 5 lifts have. Schattwald also has the oldest ski school in the Tannheimer valley.

History

  • 1200: Schattwald originally served as a hunting ground, after the discovery of a skeleton and a bronze spear-head points. 1972, a Roman coin was found near the parish church. The obverse of the coin shows the head of Augustus, on the back of the letters SC can be seen. This proves that Schattwald has served in Roman times, at least as a transit route.
  • 596: In the border area of the Tannheimer valley can be down the first Swabia.

Culture and sights

  • A native of Elbigenalp in the Lech Valley artist Anton Falger has 1846 for Schattwald created a dance of death, which originally hung in the lobby of the Gothic former building of the present church of St. Wolfgang and has found its place on the south wall of the new church today. The painted on wood panels 12 small-format pictures ( 20x16 cm ) are summarized in two rows in a large frame. You are not signed, the image of the soldier is dated 1846. The arrangement of the pictures probably no longer meets the intentions of the artist; followed each other today: child, boy, soldier, Bishop, Virgin, Citizen, Farmer, Monarch, beggar, artisan, mother, grandmother.

  • Johann Nepomuk Zobl * 23 January 1822 Schattwald / Tirol, † 13 September 1907 Feldkirch / Vorarlberg, Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar General in Feldkirch. - After his ordination on 27 July 1845 in Brixen since 1851 prefect of studies and professor of church history at the local seminary; since 1872 editor and publisher of Brixen Church leaf. Since 1876 canon, he was elected after the death of Prince-Bishop John of Leiß on April 25, 1884 for Chapter Vicar, in the following year (27 March 1885) to the Auxiliary Bishop of Brixen ( episcopal ordination on 26 April in 1885 by Prince Bishop Simon Aichner ) and Vicar General appointed for Vorarlberg based in Feldkirch.
