Geography

Birkfeld located in the center of the Upper Valley in Feistritzwerke Weiz district in the Austrian state of Styria.

History

The village was mentioned in the princely land register from 1265 for the first time and got his first market privilege 1330. The municipality as an autonomous body was established in 1850. During the same year, the establishment of a district court took place. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, 1945-1955, she was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.
