The community Arzberg with 546 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) is located in the same mining region north-east of Graz in Styria. She is also a member municipality in the country pastures.

Geography

Arzberg is located in the district of Weiz in the Austrian province of Styria.

There are no other cadastral except Arzberg. Arzberg is located at Mariazell pilgrimage. Arzberg is the entrance to natural Raabklamm whose visit is free.

Geology

The silver- leading lead and zinc ore formed in front of about 400 million years ago. Ore slurry were deposited as a result of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes on the basis of the then great- Sea from which stretched in the region of today Arzberg. History

In a deed of gift from the July 12, 1242 Arzberg is what so much as means mountain of ore, first mentioned as " Aerzeperck ". Already in the early Middle Ages argentiferous galena ( galena ) was mined as a raw material for an extensive recovery of silver, with which the Grazer coin was supplied. In 1424, mining activity was regulated by the law " Rechberger Bergordnung ". The heyday of the degradation of galena for silver and lead generation is the 18th century. From 1000 kg of rock was gained 0.5 kg of silver. The degradation but also operated in the 19th century. The local church as an autonomous body created in 1850. From about 1900 to 1927 the mining of galena and sphalerite was ( sphalerite ) for the production of lead, silver and zinc. Owners of the mines in 1903, the corporation Societé des Zincs et Plombs Argentifers de Styrie, Lausanne ( Switzerland ). In 1909, the corporation Société des Mines d' Haufenreith, Paris ( France) became the new owner.
