Blankenburg is a municipality in Unstrut Hainich in Thuringia. It belongs to the administrative community at Bad Tennstedt based in the town of Bad Tennstedt.

Blankenburg is in the northwest of the Thuringian Basin, in the so-called chimney Heimer trench, which is flanked by the Heilinger heights.

History

The village was first mentioned on 20 March 1143.
