Borodino, Krasnoyarsk Krai

Borodino (Russian Бородино ) is a town in Krasnoyarsk (Russia) with 17,416 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 120 km ( air line ) east of the regional capital of Krasnoyarsk in the northern foothills of the Sayan Mountains. Not far from the city, the river Irsha runs in the catchment area of the Yenisei - Kan Creek.

Borodino is the region under the direct management.

History

In the 1820s, about five kilometers south-east of the present town center was the village of Borodino. It was founded by soldiers of the Semenovsky Regiment, an elite unit of the Russian army, which had been banned in this area because of command refusals in 1820, and named in memory of the Battle of Borodino during the Patriotic War of 1812.

In 1949, at a new location, a workers' settlement ( urban and settlement type ) associated with the incipient development of the Kansk - Achinsk brown coal basin. The mine Borodinski (also Irsha - Borodinski ) adopted in December of the same year on production.

In 1981, the city charter was granted.

Borodino has since 1998 a local history museum.

Economy and infrastructure

City -forming enterprises is open-pit Borodinski south of the city, which is one of the Siberian Coal and Energy Company ( Sibirskaja ugolnaja energetitscheskaja kompanija, Siberian Coal Energy Company, SUEK ) today. Since the existence of the mine more than 800 million tons of brown coal were mined, up to 30 million tons per year.

The nearest railway station is located in 15 km north-west Saosjorny on the Trans-Siberian Railway ( station Saosjornaja, 4264 route km from Moscow). Here branches off a train from work to the opencast lignite mines.

The highway M53 from Novosibirsk Krasnoyarsk to Irkutsk via bypasses the city to the east, close to the old village and today the district Borodino.
