Can not Let Go is a song by American singer Mariah Carey. She wrote and produced it together with Walter Afanasieff. The piece was published on 23 October 1991 as the second single from her album Emotions. The single reached # 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 after some time

Musically, the song contains influences from R & B- pop and New Age. The protagonist of this synth ballad laments her ex- lover who has moved, although she would not allow it.

Carey sang Can not Let Go of The Arsenio Hall Show in September 1991 and on Saturday Night Live in November 1991.

How Carey's previous single releases, Can not Let Go won the 1993 in the United States again a BMI Pop Award.

Music Video

The director for music video led Jim Sonzero. Carey wears in the song before in an evening dress. The music video was filmed in black and white. At the beginning and at the end of the music video is shown a rose that opens and closes at the beginning of the end.

Copyright infringement

In 1992, sued the songwriter, Sharon Taber and Ron Gonzalez, Mariah Carey and Afanasieff. They claimed, Can not Let Go would be their ( unknown ) Song Right Before My Eyes very similar. Getting the plaintiff demanded tapes of the studio recordings to both works to compare. Later, the complaint was withdrawn.

Charts

Carey's first five singles in the United States were all number - one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 Can not Let Go finished the series and only reached number 2; it has been removed by All 4 Love by Color Me Badd the group from the top.
