Caroline County (Maryland)

The Caroline County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maryland. Thus, the County is one of the lowest population in Maryland. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Denton.

Geography

The County is located in the interior of the Delmarva Peninsula on the border of Delaware and has an area of 844 square kilometers; of which 15 square kilometers (1.82 percent) of water. The Caroline County is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Caroline County was formed in 1773 from parts of Dorchester and Quenn Anne's County. It was named after Caroline Eden, the wife of the last British colonial governor.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000, lived in Caroline County 29 772 people in 11,097 households and 8,156 families. The population density was 93 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.7 percent white, 14.8 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.5 percent Asian, and 1.3 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 2.7 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 11,097 households out of which 34.8 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.3 percent were married couples living together, 13.6 percent were single mothers and 26.5 percent were non-families. 21.5 percent of all households were single-person households and 9.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size is 3.03 people.

26.8 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.7 percent between 18 to 24, 28.9 percent between 25 and 44, 23.1 percent between 45 and 64 years old and 13.5 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.

The average income of a household was $ 38,832, for a family is $ 44,825. Males had a median income of $ 31,119, women $ 21,915. The per capita income was $ 17,275. Approximately 9.0 percent of families and 11.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
