Cecil County, Maryland

The Cecil County is a county located in the state of Maryland in the United States. In the census in 2010, the County had 101 108 inhabitants and a population density of 112.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Elkton.

The Cecil County is part of the Delaware Valley metropolitan area called the City of Philadelphia.

Geography

The county is separated by the Mason - Dixon Line to the north by Pennsylvania; east borders the County of Delaware. The Cecil County is located at the mouth of the Susquehanna River in the Chesapeake Bay and has an area of 1,082 square kilometers. Of these, 181 square kilometers ( 16.69 percent) of water. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Cecil County was formed in 1674 from parts of Baltimore and Kent counties. It was named (1605-1675), the first Lord Proprietor of the then British colony of Maryland by the first name of Cecilius Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000, lived in Cecil County 85 951 people in 31 223 households and 23 292 families. The population density was 247 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.4 percent white, 3.9 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.7 percent Asian and 0.5 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.2 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 31 223 households out of which 37.0 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.6 percent were married couples living together, 11.1 percent were single mothers and 25.4 percent were non-families. 19.9 percent of all households were single-person households and 7.1 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size is 3.12 people.

27.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.5 percent between 18 to 24, 31.2 percent between 25 and 44, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 years old and 10.5 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.7 males.

The average income of a household was $ 50,510, for a family is $ 56,469. Males had a median income of $ 40,350, women $ 28,646. The per capita income was $ 21,384. Approximately 5.4 percent of families and 7.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
