Game equipment

Seneschal, Vogt, the workers houses and the raw materials and marking discs are made of wood, because the other utensils of solid cardboard.

Game play

Caylus is a strategy game for two to five players. The playing time is two to three hours. A luck factor, there are not up on the starting grid of the first buildings. Surprises offer at best the uncertainties in the actions of the players.

Each round has seven phases. In the first phase, the income of the other players is controlled.

In the second phase, the players put in turn their workers one, while there are four possibilities: One can help building in the king's castle, you can on a free building set to its function ( production of goods, construction of buildings, goods for sale / exchange ) to use or are employed on a special building, which offers him special functions, eg the order of play changed. In addition, you can also fit if you do not want to use all the workers characters in this game round or can. This increases the cost of the players for the further insertion of workers, since they pay a sum of money, which steadily increases with the number of players already mated. The first player who passes also still gets a penny from the bank. Drawback is that you have to act first in phase four, and thus has the least impact to the provost. This phase is the most important because most interactive phase in the game ends when all players have passed, or no one can use more.

In the third phase of the game, the special building to be activated. This offer special features that differ significantly from the normal buildings.

In the fourth phase of the game Vogt is moved. This determines up to which building workers employed are activated. Using the bailiff have the players the possibility to workers from other players put into quasi " offside ", so that they are not activated. In addition, the " Vogt position" influence on the redrawing of the seneschal and thus on the overall game round number.

In phase five then the buildings are activated in the order in which they were built on the street. Goods or money, which is obtained immediately available (eg A player activates the farm and receive two food than Next, he activates the market and sold the food and receives money for it) is there. Are all workers enabled, the Vogt are " behind " on the building fields, this phase ends. The workers, even the non-activated, go back to the players.

The six phase regulates the palace. This is important to enjoy the favor of the king, also shares in the castle are important for the final settlement.

In the last phase of the game the Seneschal is pulled. This is getting further away from the castle and regulates the end of the game. He moves at least one space, but can also advance two squares when the Vogt " before him " is. Is the Seneschal drawn, so the bailiff is placed on the same field.

Has the Seneschal of the settlement reached or fields is a construction phase of the castle was completed, the buildings of the castle are settled. After the game round starts again at Phase 1, unless by reaching the third billing the game ends.

Aim of the game

Through the construction of new buildings and parts of the castle as well as the receipt of royal favors of any games trying to get as many prestige points as possible. The winner is whoever has the most prestige points at the end. The current score is displayed continuously on a strip Kramer and updated.

Reprints

Due to some customer complaints was revised shortly after publication of Caylus this version, as in the Schedules some color distinctions were very difficult to detect. In addition, the coins were replaced in the first version plastic chips by Pappmünzen. The plastic chips were in color and in size can hardly be distinguished from each other.

Meanwhile, a special limited edition of Caylus is now available.
