Cesana Torinese

Cesana Torinese ( Piedmontese Cesan -a, Cesana Occitan ) is a municipality with 989 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Turin (TO ), Region Piedmont.

The municipality consists of the villages Bousson, desertes, Fénils, Mollières, Solomiac, Thures, Champlas Seguin, Rhuilles, San Sicario Borgo, San Sicario Alto and Pra Claud. Neighboring municipalities are Abriès Cervières, Claviere, Monginevro, Névache, Oulx, Sauze di Cesana and Sestriere. The patron saint of the town is St. John the Baptist.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 1,354 m above sea level at the confluence of the mountain streams Ripa and Dora the Dora Riparia. The municipality covers an area of ​​121.3 km ².

Sports

For the 2006 Winter Olympics, a skating rink for the competitions in bobsleigh, luge and skeleton was built in Cesana Pariol. The Olympic Biathlon competitions were held in Cesana, San Sicario, instead.
