Geography

Geographical Location

The place is located in the Middle Bavarian Forest, a few miles east of the county town of Cham ( Oberpfalz).

There are four districts In the municipality: Bärndorf, Chamerau, leather spine. In July, the community Hader barn was dissolved and on the communities Chamerau and Münster Cham ( Cham came in 1978 ) split, so parts of the district Hader barn are now in the two neighboring communities.

History

The noble family of Chamerauer had its headquarters in Chamerau. First documented in 1180 is called a Puchard de Chamerave. Early laid the Chamerauer their seat on the nearby Haidstein and let Chamerau manage by caregivers. see also Postal Haidstein, Tower Hill Rossbach

As Albrecht I of the division of Bavaria 1353 Duke of Straubing- Holland, was the administration of Lower Bavaria - Straubing was for many years in the hands of Chamerauer. Peter died in 1452 of Chamerauer. The castle came by marriage in 1474 to the knight Hans door Linger, who in 1495 sold to Duke Albrecht IV. It fell into disuse after 1500. In 1811 the carpenter Wolfgang Neumeier Chamerau bought the ruins of the Bavarian State at the price of 25 guilders. 1817 was found when clearing away the then steeple upstanding walls many arrows and a gold ring.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, a part of the dissolved municipality Bärndorf was incorporated. On 1 July 1972, added a part of the former municipality Hader barn. Lederdorn followed 1. July 1976.

Culture and sights

Structures

The former castle Chamerau was the seat of the Lords of Chamerau (1180 first mentioned ). Apart from a few tracks ( Postal, ditch ) Nothing remains of the castle.

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul in 1669 rebuilt. The foundations of the tower date from the 13th century. In 1960, the church received a magnification by an octagonal extension. The interior includes ceiling frescoes from 1753 and a rococo style. Noteworthy is the large baptismal font from the 13th century apostles Fries.

Highway

Chamerau is located on the newly built national highway 85, about 10 kilometers from the district town of Cham.

Railway

Chamerau has a breakpoint on the railway line Cham Kötzting - Lam, which is operated by the Oberpfalzbahn.

About national fame reached Chamerau 2008 with the release of footage showing Christian Ulmen alter ego Knut Hansen, as he said at the time of emergence incumbent mayor Frieder Herold elicits xenophobic and homophobic remarks before open the camera.
