Chemnitzer Land

The district of Chemnitz was a country from 1994 to 2008 existing district in the west of Saxony. The population density was about 400 inhabitants per km ². Thus, the district was the most densely populated country in Chemnitz county in the new federal states and surpassed in population density also several independent cities of the East, such as Brandenburg an der Havel.

Geography

The circular area belonged to Vorerzgebirge. Neighboring districts were in the north of the Thuringian district Altenburger Land, in the northeast of Mittweida district, in the east the district-free city of Chemnitz, in the southeast of the district Stollberg and in the southwestern district of Zwickau country and the independent city of Zwickau.

In the circle there were, among others, the following waters: River Mulde and the reservoirs Glauchau and upper forest. Forest areas: Rabenstein forest, Rümpf and upper forest. The highest point was the length Berger height ( 484 m).

History

The district was formed on 1 August 1994 by merging the counties Glauchau and Hohenstein -Ernstthal and parts of the district Chemnitz.

In the course of the Saxon district reform, the district Chemnitz Country was merged with the district of Zwickau country and the independent city of Zwickau Zwickau the new district with effect from 1 August 2008. As a license plate Z is performed.

The economy of the county was dominated by the machine and vehicle. This area included, among others, the following companies: Continental AG, Hella -Behr, Samvardhana Motherson Peguform, SEW Euro Drive, Weigl drive technology and BMG.

Education

In the district there was a study College ( BA Glauchau ) and several vocational schools and high schools. Furthermore existed in the adjacent independent cities of Chemnitz and Zwickau various universities.
