Coat of arms of Costa Rica

The coat of arms of Costa Rica is since 21 October 1964, the official state coat of arms of Costa Rica.

History

Originally the coat of arms was introduced on November 27, 1906; it was reformed in 1964, as a coat of arms at the top edge of two more were added to the first of five stars.

Description

The seven stars represent the seven provinces of Costa Rica.

In the shield two ships are also shown, one of which is the other three mountains, which is other -worldly of the mountains. The ships are to remember the nautical and maritime past of the country, while the mountains represent the three largest mountain ranges of Costa Rica ( Cordillera de Talamanca, Cordillera de Guanacaste and Cordillera Central). The country from which they protrude is, consequently, Costa Rica. It is surrounded by two seas, one at the front - the Pacific and one in the back - the Caribbean. Behind the sea goes on a sun.

At the top of the shield stands on a scroll, the official name of the nation. Above this is a blue ribbon with the inscription " Central America ", Spanish for " Central America ".
