Coat of arms of Antigua and Barbuda

The coat of arms of Antigua and Barbuda was introduced in 1967.

Description

The coat of arms was designed by Christopher Gordon and shows in the center a shield that is divided in blue and white waves representing the sea.

It rises against black sky, the rising sun, a motif that is also found on the flag of Antigua and Barbuda.

The sugarcane plant left and the sugar mill in the middle refer to the former main occupation of the country. More yield fruits are represented by the cotton tree on the right and the pineapple surrounded by four red hibiscus flowers as a crest.

The shield is held by two deer on a green meadow. The deer is considered hunting animal of the island Barbuda.

Underneath is the banner with the English motto of Antigua and Barbuda:

This motto was accompanied by former Trade Minister James H. Carrot.
