Coat of arms of Mexico
The United Mexican States adopted in 1822 at a crest in the Broad is the Mexican state emblem today. It depicts an eagle on a cactus ( Opuntia a ) on a rock in a lake, holding a snake in its talons.
History
The coat of arms refers to a legend of the Aztecs on the creation of their city Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City - Ciudad de México ). According to legend, had given them their god Huitzilopochtli prophesied that they would see an eagle at just such a place that firmly hold a snake between claws and beak, and there they should settle and establish their town.
During the first Agustín de Iturbide Empire, the eagle wearing a crown. The coat of arms was amended in 1823. The prickly pear has now been placed on a rising out of the water rocks and the whole surrounded by an oak and laurel branch. The Second Empire of Maximilian of Mexico also led the eagle in his coat of arms, but were Supplementary material of the Habsburg and the French ( Napoleonic appearance of the eagle ) added monarchy. Since then, the coat of arms in 1880, 1916, 1934, and the last time in 1968 was changed at the request of Gustavo Díaz Ordaz. It was designed by Francisco Eppens Helguera. During the administration of Vicente Fox 's coat of arms Eppens was not used, only back under Felipe Calderón. In the same year, as in Mexico and the Summer Olympic Games were held in 1968, also a new golden coat of arms was published, mainly by the President, is used by the comparable federal ministers " Secretarios " and by the Governors.
