Coat of arms of Panama

The coat of arms of Panama was introduced in 1904.

Description

The coat of arms is divided twice and white top and red, and blue and white split down.

On the shield sits an eagle, representing the United States, the newly formed government recognized the first. In the beak of the eagle holds a silver ribbon with the Latin state motto, which refers to the use of the Panama Canal for the whole world:

Since 1946 float nine stars above the eagle, which represent the nine provinces of Panama.

The coat of arms is flanked left and right by four Panamanian flags.

History

The coat of arms of Panama has barely changed since independence. What has changed is only the number of stars from seven to nine. The present form is enshrined in the Constitution of 1946.
