Conca de Barberà

The comarca of Conca de Barberà is located in the province of Tarragona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of 650 km ² and 18,780 inhabitants (2009 ).

Location

The community association is located in the central part of Catalonia, between the provincial capital cities of Tarragona and Lleida. It is bordered on the north by the comarca of Segarra and Urgell, on the east by Anoia, in the south of Alt Camp, and to the west of Baix Camp, Priorat and Garrigues. Together with the Comarcas Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Baix Penedès, Priorat, Tarragonès forms the region 's territory Camp de Tarragona.

Conca de Barberà lies in a basin ( katal.: conca ), which is crossed by several small streams. In the West, this is the upper reaches of the Ríu Francolí with its tributary Anguera. To the east is the headwaters of the Ríu Gaia. The plane is surrounded by low mountain chains in the north, these are the mountain ranges Tallat and Suro, in the east Brufaganya and Queralt, in the south of Miramar and Cogullo and west Llena and Pradesgebirge. In Pradesgebirge several mountain peaks are over 1,000 meters, including the highest elevation of the municipal association, the Tossal de la Baltasana ( 1,201 m) on the border of the comarca of Baix Camp.

Economy

The main industry is agriculture. Crops are corn, wine, hazelnuts, almonds and vegetables. Conca de Barberà is also an appellation for a wine from this region with the classification DO ( Denomination of Origin ). In the livestock pigs and poultry are bred. The industry is of little importance.
