Cristobal Huet

Cristobal Huet ( born September 3, 1975 in Saint -Martin- d'Hères ) is a French-Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender who is under contract with the Lausanne HC in the National League A since August 2012.

Career

Huet was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the seventh round at 214th place in the NHL Entry Draft in 2001. He plays in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Black Hawks and is also goalkeeper of the French national ice hockey team. For this he has already participated in two Olympic Winter Games (1998 in Nagano and 2002 Salt Lake City ) and five Ice Hockey World Championships (1997 to 2001).

During his time with the HC Lugano in Switzerland, he was elected to the seasons 1999/2000 and 2000/ 01 twice to the goalkeeper of the year. On 20 February 2003, he celebrated in goal for the Los Angeles Kings is NHL debut against the Philadelphia Flyers, already less than a month later, on March 15, he was able to record his first shutout in the game against the Carolina Hurricanes. On 5 and 6 February 2006, he was able to celebrate two shutouts in succession within 24 hours. Huet is only the second French NHL player ever.

During the NHL season 2004/ 05 ( lockout ), he played for the Adler Mannheim in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. He got the Roger Crozier Saving Grace Award for the goalkeeper with the best catch rate after 2005/ 06 NHL season. During the 2006/07 season he was able to prevail as the number one in Montréal and his good performances in the first half of the season meant that he was invited to the NHL All-Star Game in 2007. Then he faltered and the Canadiens. In mid-February 2007, he suffered an ankle injury and was until the end of the season, which ended the Canadiens without participating in the playoffs, not fit again.

In the 2007 /08 season Huet again showed good performance, but temporarily had to compete with junior goalkeeper Carey Price. On the last day of the transfer window Huet was transferred to the Washington Capitals. After these with José Théodore committed another goalkeeper with trunk space requirements in the summer of 2008, did not renew his contract and the Frenchman moved to the Chicago Blackhawks. In the 2009/10 season he won the Stanley Cup with Chicago, where he total of only 20 minutes was used in the play- offs.

In summer 2010, the Hawks because of the NHL salary cap had to give some players and also studied for Huet a new employer. Fribourg- Gottéron expressed interest in signing of Huet, while Sébastien Caron joined the KHL. The end of September accepted Huet, the Blackhawks and Gottéron a loan agreement for the 2010/11 season, so Huet content that is not fully supported by the Swiss club does not have to be used to calculate the salary cap.

In October 2010, Huet was a Swiss passport, after he was married seven years with a of Valais.

Huet's goal was to play in the 2011/12 season back in the NHL, but no club wanted him, so he stayed one more season at HC Fribourg- Gottéron. In August 2012, Huet signed a four year contract with the Lausanne HC from the National League B, with whom he 2013 promotion to the National League A realized.
