Dennis Weaver

William Dennis Weaver ( June 4, 1924 in Joplin, Missouri, USA; † 24 February 2006 in Ridgway, Colorado ) was an American actor.

Life

To school and study periods Weaver was successful athlete; it was founded in 1948, sixth at the national championships of the USA in the decathlon. His stage career started with the help of Shelley Winters, giving it a 1952 stage role in sweeping back, little Sheba gave.

In 1955, Weaver played Chester in the Western series Gunsmoke; for this role, which he held for nine years, he was awarded the Emmy, and had a role in the war film The Bridges at Toko -Ri. In Steven Spielberg's film debut Duel (1971 ) he played the lead role of a lone car driver who finds himself pursued by a truck. In Germany he became a sheriff in New York ( 1970-1977 ) great popularity through the crime series. From 1973 to 1975 was president of the Screen Actors Guild votes.

Weaver died of cancer. His three sons, Rick ( b. 1949 ), Robby (* 1953) and Rusty (* 1959 ) from the 1945 closed marriage to Gerry Stowell are also active in the film industry.
