East Germany national ice hockey team

The national ice hockey team of the GDR existed from 1951 until 1990. Biggest success was winning the bronze medal at the European Championships in 1966.

History

The national ice hockey team of the GDR denied on January 28, 1951 in East Berlin, their first international match, which she lost 3:8 against Poland. The greatest successes recorded the team in their early years. From 1957 to 1968, the GDR played each in the A World Championship in 1966 and won the bronze medal at the European Championships. In addition, she participated in the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble in part, where she reached the final round. There, the choice of the GDR lost all seven games and finished in last place thus these behind the Federal Republic of Germany, against which she had lost in direct comparison with 2:4. Then the GDR commuted between B- and A- WM, to the national team was disbanded after the reunification with the Federal Republic of Germany.

Most-capped player

Most-capped player in the GDR is Dietmar Peters of the SC Dynamo Berlin with a total of 315 missions. Behind him, his former teammate Dieter Frenzel ( 296 ), whose performance athletic career, the end of the GDR survived and moved in November 1989 as the first East German players to a West German club. Third in the rankings with Roland Peters ( 279 ) is also a former player of the SC Dynamo, who is the brother of the record holder at the same time. With many years of selection - captain and leading player Joachim Ziesche the East German ice hockey is also represented in the IIHF Hall of Fame.
