Emeka Okafor

Chukwuemeka Noubuisi Okafor ( born September 28, 1982 in Houston, Texas ) is an American professional basketball player of Nigerian origin. Currently, he plays in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns. Its name means literally means " God has done great ." Emeka Okafor - as his name is often abbreviated - plays on the position of the Power Forwards and Centers and is not least due to his successful collegiate career as a basketball player at the University of Connecticut a term for basketball fans. Before he went to UCONN in 2001, he attended Bellaire High School.

College

Emeka Okafor drew attention to himself not only by his skill as a player for the basketball team at UCONN, but also by its performance as a student. His basketball game is characterized by its strong defense, with which he can decide games. In 2004, he won the NCAA title together with Ben Gordon and was elected as the Most Outstanding Player of the competition. On April 16, 2004 Emeka Okafor announced at the NBA Draft and was drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats at position two.

NBA

Before the 2004/05 season began, Okafor played for the American Basketball Team at the Olympic Games in Athens and won the team bronze. Emeka Okafor was able to celebrate some victories in the first year with the Charlotte Bobcats, and in 2005 was awarded the Rookie of the Year. He also led the NBA All- Rookie First Team in this year. The 2005/06 season he had, however, expose mostly due to injuries.

In July 2009 he was transferred against Tyson Chandler to the New Orleans Hornets. This is his first team changes since he came into the league in 2004.

For the Hornets, he played until 2012, but due to several injuries, he was able to complete almost all the games in any season. In the summer of 2012, he was transferred along with Trevor Ariza to the Washington Wizards. In return, Rashard Lewis joined the Hornets. Shortly before the start of the 2013/14 season Okafor moved for, inter alia, Marcin Gortat to the Phoenix Suns.
