Flögeln

Flögeln is a municipality in the Lower Saxon Samtgemeinde Bederkesa in the district of Cuxhaven. The village has about 700 inhabitants.

The name of the village was first mentioned in 1204 in Bremen documents as Vlogeling.

Mayor Claus is Seebeck. The coat of arms shows two resort Crane Wing on a blue background and a wave river.

History

From 1971 to 1986 extensive archaeological excavations by the Lower Saxony Institute for Historical Coastal Research in Wilhelmshaven took place in the settlement chamber of Flögeln. This settlements from the period of the Neolithic Age ( Funnel Beaker culture) through the Middle Ages ( the thorn castle ) to the early modern period were revealed. Many finds are exhibited in the Museum Burg Bederkesa.
