Geversdorf ( Low German Geversdörp ) is a municipality on the Oste in the Samtgemeinde On Dobrock in the northeast of the district of Cuxhaven, in Lower Saxony.

Geographical Location

The place is Geversdorf left the Oste, but the district also reaches over to the right side -lying area.

Community structure

History

The town was first mentioned in 1146 as Geverstorpe. Due to the ending " village " in Geverstorpe, the place has probably dates from around 850, the first settler, a fisherman named Gevers or Gevert should be the namesake. The name is derived from Gevers Gevetke, the old Germanic term for artisans in the village.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Geversdorf is located on the country road 111, the double track crossing here since 1988 on a folding bridge the river Oste. The bridge has a vertical clearance of 3.80 meters, is 206 meters long and 11 meters wide.

The narrow Kehdinger circular path, connecting the district with Itzwörden Freiburg / Elbe and Stade, was already shut down in 1933 and completely dismantled until 1935.

Harbor and shipyard

Geversdorfer is home port for one of the last fishing boat, with responsibility in the area of the tidal Elbe nor the environmentally friendly stow net fishing is pursued.

The shipbuilding company Ostewerft was discontinued after 300 years of history. The factory building was partially rebuilt and parts of the premises have been converted into apartments. The roof garden on the large hangar offers a unique view of the river Oste. The great tower crane in the yard is the most visible sign recognition for the shipyard and Geversdorf in the flat landscape of the lower Oste.

In the list of monuments in Geversdorf are registered in the list of monuments of the country district Cuxhaven monuments.

Structures

The City Council of Geversdorf was built in 1883. This is home to approximately 250 m² and the Heritage Museum of Geversdorf with the "home Ethnography archive". This museum and the bascule bridge over the Oste are part of the German Fährstraße.

In the center stands on a mound of St. Andrew's Church. It was first documented in 1233. To the parish at that time were also Neuhaus, Belum and Kehdingbruch.

The classical interior of the church contains a three-legged, cast in 1505 by Hinrich Kock baptismal font and a Furtwängler organ. The present building with ridge turret was built in 1843, completed the spire in 1906.

Sports

The TSV Geversdorf eV plays football in the district league Lüneburg. It was founded in 1949. The association with the date December 9, 2007 453 members.

President since 1972 Helmut Reiter. For 35 years he has been the TSV Geversdorf as first Chairman available.

Regular events

Every year on the first weekend of August is held the three-day Geversdorfer shooting festival, celebrated since 1632. On Shrove Monday Shrove Monday a large celebration with Kindermaskerade takes place
