Mulsum

Mulsum is a member community of the Lower Saxon Samtgemeinde Wursten in the same landscape in the district of Cuxhaven. Passing through the municipality, the railway line Cuxhaven - Bremerhaven. History

In early history existed near Mulsum the Feddersen Wierde, a Wurtendorf in Seemarsch. The originally located on an island Saxon settlement was inhabited from the 1st century BC to the 5th century. 1524 took place on the Mulsumer churchyard of St. Mary's Church a battle of Wurster soldiers and troops of the archbishop of Bremen, which ended with a devastating defeat of the Wurster and led to the subsequent looting of the entire country sausages.

Culture and sights

Originally from the 1250 church in Mulsum is a massive rock stone. The cemetery surrounding the church, was once battleground in the fight for freedom against the Wurster Bremen Archbishop Christoph, which took place in 1524. The church was Mary, the mother of Jesus consecrated. The name enjoyed special veneration in the march and has been associated with Mare (Sea). Particularly noteworthy is the Gothic St. Mary's Altar wing of about 1430 and the Madonna on the crescent moon from the period around 1500.
