Floral City is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Citrus County in the U.S. state of Florida with 5,217 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Floral City is about 10 km south of Inverness and 90 km north of Tampa. The CDP is crossed by U.S. Highway 41 and Florida State Road 48.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 5,217 inhabitants distributed to 2,912 households. The population density was 86.4 inh. / Km ². 96.2 % of the population were white, 1.3% African American, 0.5% Native American and 0.3 % Asian Americans. 0.4 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.2% in different ethnic groups. 3.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 46.9 % of all households lived in 19.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 64.7 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.23 persons and the average family size is 2.71 people.

17.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 14.4% were 20-39 years old, 28.5% were 40-59 years old and 39.2 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 53 years. 49.1 % of the population were male and 50.9 % female.

The average annual income was $ 39,798, while 15.1 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 97.83 % of the population spoke Spanish and 2.17%.
