Inverness Highlands South is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Citrus County in the U.S. state of Florida with 6,542 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Inverness Highlands South is bordered to the north by the city of Inverness and is approximately 110 km north of Tampa. The CDP is affected by the U.S. Highway 41 and adjacent to the Inverness Airport.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,542 inhabitants distributed to 3,198 households. The population density was 448.1 inh. / Km ². 93.5 % of the population were white, 1.8% African American, 0.4% Native American and 1.3% Asian Americans. 1.2% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.8% in different ethnic groups. 5.9% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 42.9 % of all households lived in 25.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 65.9 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.30 persons and the average family size is 2.77 people.

22.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.4% were 20-39 years old, 26.6 % were 40-59 years old and 32.7 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 47 years. 46.7 % of the population were male and 53.3 % female.

The average annual income was $ 38,278, while 12.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.90 % of the population spoke Spanish 6.37 % and 0.74 % spoke French.
