Inverness is a city and also the county seat of Citrus County in the U.S. state of Florida with 7,210 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Inverness is located about 100 km north of Tampa.

Religions

In Inverness there are 20 different churches from 10 different denominations. Among the belonging to a denomination churches the Baptist church is best represented with six churches. There is also a no denomination belonging churches ( as of 2004).

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 7,210 inhabitants distributed to 3,974 households. The population density was 381.5 inh. / Km ². 88.2 % of the population were white, 5.9% African American, 0.4% Native American and 1.7 % Asian Americans. 1.6% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% in different ethnic groups. 6.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 49.8 % of all households lived in 20.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 51.9 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.01 persons and the average family size is 2.69 people.

18.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 17.1% were 20-39 years old, 21.6% were 40-59 years old and 42.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 53 years. 44.2 % of the population were male and 55.8 % female.

The average annual income was $ 27,515, while 18.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.84 % of the population spoke Spanish 3.98% and 2.18% had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

Inverness is crossed by U.S. Highway 41 and Florida State Road 44. Just south of the town is the Inverness Airport.
