Crystal River is a city in Citrus County in the U.S. state of Florida with 3,108 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Crystal River is approximately 20 km west of Inverness and about 110 kilometers north of Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico.

Religion

In Crystal River, there are 18 different churches from eight different denominations. Among the belonging to a denomination churches the Baptist church is best represented with five churches. There are two no denomination belonging churches ( as of 2004).

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 3,108 inhabitants distributed to 2,036 households. The population density was 210 inh. / Km ². 87.2 % of the population were white, 7.6 % African American, 0.3% Native American and 2.1% Asian Americans. 1.2% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.7% in different ethnic groups. 5.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 45.7 % of all households lived in 18.0 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 56.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.06 persons and the average family size is 2.61 people.

15.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 14.3% were 20-39 years old, 27.8 % were 40-59 years old and 42.3 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 55 years. 47.5 % of the population were male and 52.5 % female.

The average annual income was $ 40,156, while 4.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 98.71 % of the population spoke Spanish and 1.29%.

Nuclear power station

About ten kilometers northwest of the city there is a power plant complex with four coal blocks and a block reactor, the nuclear power plant in Crystal River.

Worldwide known among scuba divers is diving in the crystal clear river water with manatees in Crystal River.

Traffic

Crystal River is crossed by the U.S. Highways 19 and 98 and Florida State Road 44. The Tampa Airport is around 120 km away.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 456 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the high range. There was a rape, five robberies, 27 injuries, 32 burglaries, 191 thefts and four car thefts.
