Francavilla al Mare

Francavilla al Mare is a town with 23,771 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the region of Abruzzo, Chieti province in Italy.

The city is a member of Cittaslow, a company incorporated in Italy in 1999 motion to decelerate and increase the quality of life in cities.

Geography

Francavilla al Mare is located south of Pescara on the Adriatic. However, Pescara and Francavilla flow smoothly into one. The neighboring municipalities are Chieti, Miglianico, Ortona, Pescara (PE), Ripa Teatina, San Giovanni Teatino, Torre Teatina. Francavilla counts 23,771 inhabitants in an area of 22 km ².

Sports

On 20 May 2001, the first stage of the Giro d' Italia ended in Francavilla. It was won by Ellis Rastelli.
