Crecchio

Crecchio is an Italian commune in the province of Chieti.

Location and data

In Crecchio 2951 inhabitants. The place is 15 km from the Adriatic coast. You can reach Crecchio via the A14 motorway, exit for Ortona. To the west lies the mountain "La Maiella " borders the more famous " Gran Sasso " and which can be reached in half an hour.

To the place include the districts ( Group) San Polo, Mucchiarelli Villa, Villa Consalvi, Selciaroli Villa, Villa Mascitti, Via Piana. The neighboring municipalities are Arielli, Canosa Sannita, frisa, Ortona, Poggiofiorito and Tollo.

The main source of income of the people in this region is the wine.

History

On September 9, 1943 Crecchio was the hostel His Majesty King Victor Emmanuel III. , Queen Elena of Montenegro, the son of Prince Umberto II and General Pietro Badoglio, including military staff. Before the German, fleeing from Rome, they stayed in the " Castello Ducale " and traveled the next day to Brindisi.
