Franking, Austria

Franking is a small municipality with 946 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Upper Austrian Innviertel close to the border with Salzburg and Germany. The competent court is the district court district Mattighofen until 2004, the village belonged to the district court Wildshut. To a modest extent there since the 1950s in summer tourism, today Franking is the tourist center of the region SEELENTIUM.

Geography

Franking is at 457 m altitude in Innviertel. The expansion is 4.1 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 4.7 km. The total area is 10.5 km ². 23.8 % of the area is forested, 67.6 % of the area is used for agriculture.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Eggenham and Holzöster.

Coat of arms

Official description of the municipality coat of arms: Under a silver shield head, standing in blue diamonds, split; right in gold, a black, right inverted, flight ready Rabe; left in blue above the other two silver lily flowers. The municipality colors are yellow - blue-yellow. The silver - blue shield main stands for the long bond with Bavaria.

Education

In the community there is a three-class elementary school and a kindergarten with 2 groups of 3 to 6 -year-old children.

The first lessons were in the old Chandler house, a small wooden Sölde instead. 1854 the new school house was inaugurated, which stood until the beginning of the 70s of the last century in use. It was replaced by a new building with gym. In the basement was to rebuild the kindergarten. The building was renovated in the years 2007 to 2009, with an additional classroom and the gymnasium built for modern requirements has been redesigned.

History

The name of the village goes back to the Old High German personal name Franko or Francho. First records of the name in 1150, where a Ulricus is called by francesco hung. The headquarters of the Lords of Franking was on the Postal, a hill on the Holzöstersee. Today, this seat is no longer visible.

Since the establishment of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to the Peace of Teschen with the Innviertel (then ' Innbaiern ') to Austria. In the train of the Josephine reforms Franking 1785 was detached from the mother parish Ostermiething and an independent parish. During the Napoleonic Wars shortly Bavarian, it belongs since 1814 finally to Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the village belonged to the Upper Danube. Tourism

On Holzöstersee has changed since the 50s beach tourism developed, even Sophia Loren was a guest. 2011, a continuous barrier-free trail was opened around the lake, which is designed for a length of 400 meters as Moorlehrpfad.
