Gambian general election, 1987

The parliamentary elections in Gambia in 1987 took place on 11 March 1987 at West African state of Gambia. These elections ( also: General elections) were selected for 36 seats in the House of Representatives (English House of Representatives ).

The People's Progressive Party (PPP ) could again reach more than three-quarters of the seats. The second strongest force was the National Convention Party (NCP ).

Election procedures and circles

It was (English House of Representatives ) elected for the seventh time the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives had a total of 50 members, of which 36 elected in a direct election. Nine other members were appointed by the chiefs.

The number and distribution of electoral districts was steady against the election in 1982 was slightly modified. The constituency, Wuli ' in the management unit was in Basse, Eastern Wuli ' and divided, Western Wuli '.

For the second time the president was elected directly by the people at the same time.

Predial

The National Convention Party (NCP ) and the United Party (UP) joined to that election together to form an alliance. The Gambian People's Party (GPP ) and People's Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism ( PDOIS ) was originally brought to this choice.

In the 36 constituencies went to 113 candidates and the majority of voters wanted to get. Among the PPP came with 36 candidates in each constituency, she was challenged by 33 candidates of the NP and 3 candidates of UP. The fact that the NCP and the UP had on this election formed an alliance, the alliance went to in each constituency. Next, there were 34 candidates in this election of GPP, which was also represented by two constituencies in the management unit Kerewan, in almost all constituencies.
