Gambian general election, 1992

The parliamentary elections in Gambia in 1992 took place on 29 April 1992 in the West African nation of Gambia. These elections ( also: General elections) were selected for 36 seats in the House of Representatives (English House of Representatives ).

The People's Progressive Party (PPP ) could reach nearly three-quarters of the seats. The second strongest force was the National Convention Party (NCP ).

Election procedures and circles

It was (English House of Representatives ) elected as the eighth time the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives had a total of 50 members, of which 36 elected in a direct election. Nine other members were appointed by the chiefs.

The number and classification of constituencies remained unchanged compared to the 1987 election was changed.

For the third time the president was elected directly by the people at the same time.

Predial

In the 36 constituencies went to 124 candidates and the majority of voters wanted to get. Among the PPP came with 36 candidates in each constituency, she was challenged by 30 candidates of the NP and 3 candidates of UP. The fact that the NCP and the UP had on this election formed an alliance, the alliance stepped up to three constituencies in each constituency. Next, there were 17 candidates in this election the GPP. Eleven candidates were members of the PDOIS and 16 of the PDP. Eleven candidates competed in this election, that belonged to no party.

When choosing the PPP NCP won 25, together with the UP 6 seats. Two seats went to the GPP and won 2 seats candidates who belonged to no party.

After the PPP appeal against the winner of the constituency Jokadu Momodou SK Manneh (independent) had submitted, was carried out a by-election in June 1993. The constituency won Momodou S.K. Manneh (independent).
