Germany national under-21 football team

The German U-21 national football team is a national team German soccer player. It is governed by the German Football Association ( DFB) and represents it internationally at under-21 level, such as in friendly matches against the national teams of other national organizations or European Championships of the continental federation UEFA.

Be eligible, players who have not yet completed their 21 years and have German citizenship. In tournaments, the age at first qualifier and on 1 January of the year referred to in the tournament rules shall prevail. History

The first international match of the selection took place in 1979 in Toruń against the selection of Poland instead and was lost with 0:1. One of the first players included the later Senior World Champion Rudi Völler and Pierre Littbarski and later Germany coach Joachim Loew.

The biggest success of the selection was for many years the Vice European Championship in 1982, when they lost the finals against England. After a 1:3 first leg defeat in Sheffield, the door shot of the then 22 -year-old Rudi Völler, managed only a 3-2 win in Bremen. All three goals scored Pierre Littbarski.

In the following years the qualification was missed in 1984 it failed to Albania. Only in 1990 the collection was achieved in the final round. The selection of the Soviet Union played but after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in the return match with 1:2 after extra time through. Also in 1992 was in the quarter-final stage, a 1-1 draw in the first meeting with Scotland was followed by a 3:4 defeat, although the German selection had now led 3-1.

1993 succeeded in qualifying for the 1994 tournament with a 8-0 win against Ireland, the most significant victory of the selection. However, the qualification was missed as a table second behind the undefeated Spaniards, but the selection in 1996 again reached the final round. There, the team did not, however, came again on the quarter -finals, 1:1 and 1:4 were the results against France.

In 1998 undefeated managed to qualify for the final round, the quarter-final match against Greece ended with 0:1 and dropped out in the round of eight. Two years later, the qualification was missed as the only selection was second in the group behind Turkey and not one of the best runners-up. 2002 was only the third place in the table in the qualification.

After the successful qualification for Euro 2004 with a 1-0 success at home to Turkey and a 1-1 draw in the return game that was overshadowed by tumultuous scenes after the final whistle, the German selection could qualify again for the final round. The Association then applied to host the tournament, which then until June 8th of this year took place from May 27 in Germany. However, the team failed in the group stage in Sweden and Portugal.

2006 succeeded in qualifying the group victory against England. In the following play- sat by the selection against the Czech Republic and reached the final. Behind the unbeaten French selection Germany, Serbia - Montenegro and Portugal were level on points after one win and two defeats. Comparing the three teams among themselves Serbia - Montenegro prevailed.

The qualification for the 2009 European won the German U- 21 team in their group tied to Israel. In the following two playoffs, the DFB team won against France. In the U-21 European Championship 2009 coached by Horst Hrubesch team went undefeated to the final. There, the German U- 21 team defeated on 29 June 2009 England 4-0 and was first European Champion.

On Hrubesch Rainer Adrion followed as a coach. Adrion missed the finals for the U -21 Championship 2011. Coached by him, the team failed to qualify to the Czech Republic and Iceland. In the U-21 European Championship 2013, the German team retired after defeats in their first two group games against the Netherlands and Spain prematurely. Consequently Adrions contract was terminated in June 2013 by mutual agreement. New U-21 national team coach was his predecessor Horst Hrubesch.
