Glacier View is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Matanuska- Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States.

Geography

Glacier View is situated on the eastern boundary of the Matanuska- Susitna Boroughs. The area lies to the west of the mountain Gunsight Mountain on the Matanuska Glacier and is accessible via the Glenn Highway. Glacier View is two to three hours drive from Anchorage.

History

Glacier View is situated on the western corner of the Indian reservation Copper River Ahtna Athabaskan -. The Ahtnas were semi- nomads, who negotiated with the Indian tribe of the Cook Inlet Dena'ina with furs. The Glacier View Tahneta Pass served as a thoroughfare into the interior for prospectors. During the 1920s, the gold mining was one of the very few industries of significance in the area. Some miners settled in the area. During World War II the Glenn Highway was extended to the Richardson Highway at Glennallen.
