Hattfjelldalen ( South Sami: Aarborte ) is a Norwegian municipality with 1469 inhabitants ( 2011). The municipality is 2700 km ² large, live therefore statistically speaking only 0.5 people on average 1 sq. km. The municipality is thus one of the most sparsely populated municipalities in Norway. The eastern boundary of the municipality adjacent to Sweden. The name of the municipality is derived from the mountain Had (Eng. "hat " ), translated it means something like " Hutbergtal "

The administrative center of the municipality is the place Hattfjelldalen. The Municipality of Agriculture and Forestry is mainly operated. The largest industrial enterprise is the particle board factory Arbor, which was founded in 1957 as the first particle board factory in Norway.

The municipality was originally inhabited by seeds. In the capital Hattfjelldalen there is still a seed school in which the course is taught in South Sami.

The second largest lake in Norway Røssvatnet is located in the municipality. The Børgefjell National Park is also located in the municipality.

People

From 1883 to 1904 was the engineer Ole Tobias Olsen minister and mayor of Hattfjelldalen.

Had

The most famous landscape formation in the municipality is mount Hatten ( German hat). In the Sami language of the mountain is Aarpije ( German " widower" ), because he stands relatively alone. By 1875, copper was mined at Hatten. Near the summit there are the remains of a forge in which the copper was processed. The hike to the summit takes about two hours.
