Hoštice (Strakonice District)

Hoštice ( German Hostitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located about four kilometers northeast of Volyně in South Bohemia and belongs to Okres Strakonice.

Geography

Hoštice is located on the right side above the valley of Volyňka in the foothills of the Bohemian Forest. To the north rises the Kalný vrch ( 634 m), in the northeast of Ostry vrch ( 579 m ) southeast of the Ostrov ( 558 m), in the south of Hájek (509 m ) southwest of the Ostry vrch ( 581 m) and the Nedomina ( 544 m) and in the northwest of the Dobrny (572 m) and the hora ( 573 m). To the west runs in the valley of Volyňka the railway line Strakonice Volary; the station is one mile southwest of the village.

Neighboring towns are Přední Zborovice, Radošovice and Kapsova Lhota in the north, Svaryšov, Milíkovice and Jedraž in the northeast, Kuřimany, Paračov and Kváskovice in the east, Milejovice and Neuslužice the southeast, Litochovice, RACI and Nišovice in the south, Přechovice and Doubravice u Volyně in the southwest, Pohodnice, Hamr, Konopice, Podhorský Mlýn, Nihošovice and Němětice in the west and Strunkovice nad Volyňkou in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of Hosticz took place in 1274 as the property of Držislav, son of William of Hosticz. In 1315 Queen Elizabeth granted belonging to Wolin Lehnsgebiet village künische privileges. Later Hoštice belonged to the castle lords Hluboka or Karlberg. In the 16th century the manor was in the Kotz of Dobrz, then Wilhelm von Rosenberg. The latter sold it in 1593 to Ernst Vitanovský of Vlčkovice. The Vitanovský family of Vlčkovice held the property until the end of the 17th century. Thereafter acquired Vladislav Chlumčanský Přestavlk of the Good. He was succeeded in the first half of the 18th century Anton Chlumčanský of Přestavlk. After his death it was inherited by his son Adalbert Chlumčanský, 1784 his brother, the Canon Prague Wenceslas Leopold Chlumčanský of Přestavlk sold it. In 1788 a school was established. Bishop Leopold Wenzel Chlumčanský sold the estate Hostitz 1799 Joachim Zadubský of Schonthal, who sold it in 1810 to Joseph Hann. Subsequent owners were from 1814 Franz Joseph Dreyschock, 1815 Maria Antonia Lutz of Stahlberg, 1817 Joseph von Unwerth and from 1822 Johann Edler von Schubert Schutter stone. This was followed by his son Heinrich Schubert Schutter stone.

In 1840 the estate Hostitz included a floor space of 561 square fathoms 786.5 yoke. The estate belonged only to the village of the same name. The village Hostitz or Hoschtitz / Hostice or Hosstice consisted of 46 houses with 351 mainly Czech-speaking inhabitants. Among them were five Israelite houses in which eleven families lived. In Hostitz passed under the patronage of the religious fund the local church Nativity of Mary, a Lokalistenwohnung and a school and a magisterial Royal Castle with the official law firm, a authoritarian yard, a sheep, a brewery, a spirit house, two taverns and one outlying knackery. Hostitz was vicarage for Jedrasch ( Jedraž ) Miliwitz, Milikowitz ( Milíkovice ) Strinkowitz and Sworischau ( Svaryšov ). Until the mid-19th century Hostitz remained an independent estate.

After the abolition of patrimonial Hoštice / Hostitz formed in 1850 a municipality in the district team Strakonice and the jurisdiction Volyně. At the end of the 19th century the official name of locality Hostice was used. The volunteer fire department was founded in 1891. Recent private owner of the castle was Malwine of Schutter Stone, wife of Adolf Haid Haide Castle, died in 1940. On 10 May 2008, the Mayor Luděk Bělohlav died during a hunting dog trial in Protivec at Strunkovice nad Blanicí.

Attractions

  • Church of the Nativity of Mary, it was built as a Renaissance building in 1593 under Rudolph Kotz of Dobrz and occupied with its own pastor. 1742 a baroque reconstruction.
