Vacovice

Vacovice ( German Watzowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located nine kilometers south-west of Volyně in South Bohemia and belongs to Okres Strakonice.

Geography

Vacovice located in the foothills of the Bohemian Forest. The village is situated on a ridge on the right side above the valley of the brook Peklov. In the north- east rises the MLAD ( 663 m ) southeast of the Vacovický vrch ( 823 m ) in the south of the Na Kozlinách ( 779 m ) west of the Radešice (700 m) and in the Pacific Northwest Na Velkém policy ( 749 m). To the east rises the Čestický creek.

Neighboring towns are V Mlýnech, Dřešín and Záhorský Mlýn in the north, Na Kobylce, Čestice and Nuzín in the Northeast, U Babylonu, U Mezulánů, Krušlov and Nahořany in the east, V Lesích, U Dobré Vody, Záhoříčko and Předenice the southeast, Horosedly and Na Samotách in the south, Žár, Ptáková Lhota and Miřetice the southwest, Vacov, Chvalšovické Chalupy, Chvalšovice and Radkovice in the west and Bezděkov, Hutar and Dobrš in the northwest.

History

Vacovice was probably founded during the colonization of the frontier forests during the reign of Ottokar II Přemysls. Likewise, it is assumed that the 1297 in the royal cargo panels ( desky půhonné ) as a witness mentioned Knight Vojéř Saska of Vašovice with the village is connected. Its origin was determined by both Sedlacek and Otto's encyclopedia assigned to an extinct village in Žatec, but also a gentleman of Vimperk was also listed as another witness with Saska of Vašovice. After the abolition of patrimonial Vacovice / Wacowitz formed with the hamlets Dřešín and Chvalšovice 1850 a municipality in the district team Strakonice and the jurisdiction Volyně. Because of the altitude and the stony soils of the agricultural yield was so low that it had to secure their livelihood by weaving home residents. Mainly flax was grown. From this period also the popular saying that life in Vacovice, Krušlov and Ptáková Lhota was as bad as it did not want even the devil. The seat of the commune office in Vacovice was reached by the inhabitants of the districts only over long detours or impassable paths through the Peklovtal. In the year 1909, Dřešín and Chvalšovice finally broke loose from Vacovice and formed their own communities. Due to the industrialization of the weaving home weaving was always inefficient. The last loom in Vacovice was in operation until 1928. On 1 February 1949 Vacovice was assigned to the Okres Vimperk. After the abolition of Okres Vimperk the municipality on July 1, 1960 was part of the Okres Strakonice. In 1964 the annexation to Nahořany. This together Vacovice slammed 1975 Čestice on June 1. After a referendum, the village sparked November 24 again in 1990 by Čestice off and formed its own community. Vacovice leads a coat of arms and banners.
